Ep 27: Police Killings Reach 20-Year High
Police killings are up and the stats are staggering. According to preliminary year-end data provided by the FBI, in 2021, 73 officers were killed in felonious killings. That is the highest number since 1995, excluding the 9/11 attacks. That number is also 59% over 2020. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page 63 officers were killed by gunfire and 17 killed by vehicular assault, bringing the total to 79. For 2022, so far 38 officers have been killed. No matter what way you look at it, intentional killings of law enforcement officers have reached a 20-year-high.
Now more than ever, it is imperative that we as a society recognize the toll these numbers are having on our police departments, officers, and their families.
